School Countdown: 59 days and counting....

Maybe you all should make a
paper chain!!

celebratin' our brothas of another color....

My adorable roommie Ashlee, gansta-style!
It was even educational!
Thugs, Dallin and Mike
livin' large wit my grill....
the original gangstas....
We had some special visitors straight off the boat to teach us about Black History Month.
The jungle fever could no longer be surpressed....

Whether is was "Linger Longer", "Break the Fast", or "Salsa Social"...if any of you have been in a single's ward in your life you are familiar with a gathering after church where everyone brings food, potluck style. Well, last month in ward council the guy I was sitting next too suggested that we have a "Martin Luther Kinger Longer" in celebration of Black History Month. And that we did....SOUL food style!!

Menu:

Ribs

Fried Chicken

Jumbalaya

Watermelon

Mac and Cheese

Cheesy Grits

HushPuppies

Creamed Corn

Cobbler

And other "black" desserts (brownies, chocolate cookies)

and of course, Kool-Aid

We did pretty good for a few white folks! The food was SO good! And the entertainment was even better!!

assassins...

So my ward started the game of assassins last night...and my paranoia has set in!! For those of you who have never played it goes something like this:
1. You are assigned a victim.
2. Your object is to track and squirt (kill) your victim, eliminating them from the assassins circle.
3. Once you have killed your victim you obtain your victim's previous kills and pursue their victim, until only one remains.
I love this game, but imagine how weird I look walking around with a squire gun in hand...always prepared for my attacker.
There are a few rules:
1. The church is sacred ground (except the parking lot)
2. Thou shall keep the sabbath day holy
3. No killing one hour before your victim goes to work or 1/2 hour after they get off work.
4. No killing while your victim is at work.
5. No killing at official ward activities.
6. No killing 1/2 hour before or after official ward activities.
It's a great way to get to know people in your ward....you know, by stalking them! :)
I'm getting ready for my kill tonight...because of the sacred nature of this kill I will not reveal any information previous to the kill...wish me luck!

i love....

Bride magazines. There is something so fun about looking through that magazine! It makes me happy!

We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet

Thank you, President Hinckley!
Can you imagine the greeting he had?
Almost wish I was there to see it!

the injury of injera...

So I decided to start an ethnic food club so that I have an excuse to try new fun foods.

For our first month we tried Ethiopian...it was an adventure.

We pulled into this hole in the wall where the only cars in the parking lot were taxi cabs (we figured it was authenic for that reason alone...if its good enough for the natives, it's good enough for us).

All four entrees were served on two giNORMous pancake type breads called injera. The around the injera are "wots" dipping sauces that are seasoned. Then they serve whatever you order on top of the injera. There is no silverware, you just tear off some injera and eat the meat, sauces, and injera with your fingers.

So the first few bites were slap your grandma good. I loved the spices! But after a while the injera had this sour taste and it was time to be done with Ethiopia!

And now we know why Ethiopians are so skinny...the first few bites are phenomenal, but then you got to call it good. It's the magic power of the injera....

Unfortunately, the injera caused some havoc on a few stomachs...my African spirit protected me, but the sorrow some felt made me feel kind of bad...but it is a little funny! :)

Review: Glad I did it once....probably won't do it again, unless I feel real adventurous....
Here's to next month: German!

name the disease process....

I saw a woman at the clinic (aka pleasantville) last week, covered in these mole-type things. seriously, everywhere!! Even her butt crack!!

10pts if you name the disease. I had no idea, if that helps.

What I did know...is how thankful I am for my health! There are so many horrible things that can go wrong, and it is amazing that it doesn't go wrong more often. I complain about a zit or hairy eyebrows...guess it just puts it all in perspective!
